DailyEconomic – Jose Fernandez, the US Under Secretary of State for Energy and Environment, visited Jakarta this week to begin negotiations with the Indonesian government on the Mineral Security Partnership (MSP).
Fernandez said the MSP is an opportunity to improve Indonesia’s mineral environmental governance.
Since Indonesia banned the export of unprocessed ore in 2020, the domestic mineral processing industry has begun to prosper, but environmentalists have begun to blame environmental problems such as deforestation and air pollution.
Fernandez said that Indonesia is one of the seven semiconductor development countries supported by the United States, and that the negotiations with Indonesia have made positive progress, but did not disclose any timetable for reaching an agreement.
